FAQ
Everything we get asked the most — from how payouts work to what funding actually covers.
The basics
- buymeatoken is a funding platform for the people shipping the AI era — founders, creators, vibecoders, and engineers. Supporters fund the Builder's next bug-fix sessions, threads, or PRDs.
- Anyone whose work runs on AI inference. If a Builder ships demos, writes threads, maintains tools, records podcasts, or builds products on top of LLMs, supporters can fund that work here.
- Anyone who ships work powered by AI — founders building products, creators writing content, vibecoders hacking demos, engineers maintaining tools.
- Builders spend real money on AI tools every time they ship. We show supporters a token estimate to make that cost tangible — what does $5 actually look like in AI work? The Builder always receives cash, not tokens.
- No. There's no monthly fee, no setup fee, and no tier upgrades. The platform is free to set up and use as a Builder.

For Builders
- Sign up with your email, claim a username, write a short bio, and connect your bank via Stripe Express. Your public page goes live the moment Stripe confirms your account is good to receive payouts.
- Yes. Your @username is your umbrella page, and you can spin up as many project pages as you want underneath it. Each one has its own URL and its own funding feed.
- Yes. The dashboard shows every fund — the dollar amount, the supporter's name (if they shared it), the message they left, the project they backed, and the outcome their funding covered (e.g. “~5 bug-fix sessions”).
- If Stripe needs more info from you, your dashboard shows a "Setup incomplete" banner with a direct link to resolve it. Until it's cleared, your public page won't accept new funds.
- Yes — refunds are issued from your Stripe dashboard. You have full control over them.

- Any major card supported by Stripe Checkout (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, and more depending on your region).
- Yes. Every funding flow has an optional message field. The Builder sees it in their dashboard alongside the amount.

What funding pays for
- We translate every fund into the concrete work it helps unlock for the Builder — e.g. “~5 bug-fix sessions” for an engineer, “~3 newsletter issues” for a creator, “~2 weekend hacks” for a vibecoder. Outcomes are the headline; token details are there if you want them.
- No — they're honest estimates. The numbers help supporters understand impact quickly. The Builder receives cash, not tokens.
- Yes. A Builder can write a freeform “what your funding pays for” line on their profile, or a sharper one per-project. When they do, that overrides our persona catalog and becomes the headline on checkout, the success page, and the profile block.

Money & fees
- Yes. The full amount a supporter chooses to fund lands in the Builder's Stripe payout.
- Payouts go through Stripe on their standard schedule — typically a couple of business days for new accounts, faster once established. buymeatoken doesn't hold the money.
- Builders are responsible for their own taxes. Stripe issues any applicable year-end tax forms, and full transaction history lives in the buymeatoken funding feed.
